Connecticut
New England Colony
1636
Thomas Hooker was a minister, who either moved because of religious reasons, or because the land was fertile. For some reason, Thomas Hooker along with 100 followers, moved west from Massachusetts, to the land that would soon be Connecticut. Thomas didn't have any permission to be in the land, and so he sent somebody named John Winthrop II to England. John had a ring that belonged to King Charles II's grandma, who happened to be the ruler of England. So John gave the King the ring, and in return, he got a charter. Winthrop went back to Connecticut, and the new found land finally was able to rule itself. Soon people started coming in to the land, and making their own little town, and their own rules. Thomas Hooker may not have governed Connecticut, but he was the leader of the first group that traveled there, and he influenced the small colony greatly.
